Purpose of work: functional-semantic description of the dynamics of the suffixal derivation of the Ukrainian noun of the feminine gender during the written period of the Ukrainian language functioning. The main methods of research are descriptive, comparative-historical, contrastive and statistical. The specialized literature on the issue of the noun derivation from the proto-Slavic period to the present day is worked out, the language facts from the sources of the mentioned periods are collected and systematized. The language facts from the sources of different styles and genres of 11th - early 21st centuries are systematized and classified. The suffix -'ba, -ba both in the proto-Slavic era and in the old Russian-Ukrainian language of the 11th-15th centuries was a productive and active formant, owing to which nouns with the meaning of the subjectified actions of various lexical-word-formation types were formed. The newly-created version of the old -yna - suffix - -chyna/-shchyna became quite early perceived by the speakers as a separate formant, it actively participated in the production of noun, adjective and, in rare cases, verbal spatial names. The ability to create locatives developed on the basis of the semantics of composites, which had long been attribute of structures on -yna. In the sources of the 11th - 21st centuries a few nouns pluralia tantum have been identified. Among them, there are nouns to denote names of persons by their place of residence, residents of certain territories, names with the meaning of the subjectified action, names of places, lands, or territories. Creation of multiple lexical items was going on with the help of word-formation formants - -ovychy; -tsi (-tsy); -ane (-yane) and with the materially non-expressed affixes. Derivatives with the meaning of pluralia tantum, like composite formations, represented a small in number system. The delineation of the historical word-formation and the etymological analysis gives a reason to reject the suffixal j in the word-formation structure of the noun derivatives such as hushcha (gust-ja), susha (such-ja). The suffixes -ь, -ь, -а in the proto-Slavic language combined two functions: word-formation and flexion. In the Ukrainian language after the decay of the reduced, the mentioned formants began to perform only the function of flexions, and the word-formation meanings of the derivatives began to express a significant material lack of affixes. The specialization of word-formation formants in the expression of stylistically neutral meanings contributed to the archaization of certain types of derivatives with suffixes of the feminine gender, the acquisition of deverbatives and deadjectives of additional shades in the sense of emotional and expressive load. On the other hand, previous studies suggest that in the formation of some word-formation types with stylistically neutral meanings suffixes of the feminine gender have acquired a special productivity. The results of the study were used in the work of the teachers of the Ukrainian language departments of the Zaporizhzhia National University, Ivan Franko Drohobych State Pedagogical University, Bogdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University and Berdyansk State Pedagogical University while teaching such courses as "Historical Grammar" (the theme "Ukrainian noun word-formation suffixes"), "History of the Ukrainian Language" (the theme "Ways of enriching the Ukrainian literary language"), "Modern Ukrainian Literary Language "(the theme "Word-formation categories", "Ukrainian noun word-formation suffixes"), in the author's course of prof. P. І. Belousenko "Historical Derivatology of the Ukrainian Language" (section "Historical derivation of the noun"), "Relevant problems of morphology and syntax", "Modern theories of grammar meanings". Students, undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students of Ivan Franko Drohobych State Pedagogical University use the methods and techniques of the research of derivation processes of the proto-Slavic language created by the research school of prof. P. Bilousenko, as well as techniques of the language facts presentation; materials of monographs by P. I. Bilousenko, T. V.Siroshtan, N.M. Pravda and V. M. Lipych are used in the educational process of Drohobych and Melitopol Pedagogical Universities.
