The aim of the research consists in revealing structure of the psycho-pedagogical system of specialists' professional training at the present stage of education development and studying influence of various factors on quality of its functioning under the conditions of an educational institution. The methods of research are the following: theoretical (terminological analysis, theoretical analysis, historical and pedagogical analysis, scientific identification and comparative analysis of archives and literary sources, pedagogical modeling); empirical (pedagogical observation, survey, pedagogical experiment, expert evaluation); mathematical (registration, ranking, scaling, graph construction, comparison of elementary statistics). Philosophical provisions on professional training of engineering educators have been characterized; the concept of their training system has been developed; didactic principles that promote its effective functioning have been defined and characterized; core and specific professional competences of engineering educators in motor transport have been revealed and their hierarchy has been established; efficiency evaluation methodology has been proposed and its relevant criteria have been outlined; it has been proved that professional training quality of future engineering teachers in motor transport can be enhanced, provided that it is implemented according to the author's system of professional training. Results on research activities: they have been developed and implemented in the education process of Ukrainian higher education institutions through the educational and professional training programme of engineering educators in motor transport based on competency-based approach and curricula, syllabi, pedagogical and industrial practice, means of diagnosing learning outcomes; methodical recommendations on application of organizational forms and technologies of collaborative learning, the algorithm of designing the system of specialist's professional training.
