A literary review of the current state of work on the creation of one of the most promising versions of IV-generation reactors - a light water reactor with supercritical coolant pressure, was performed. Thermophysical properties of water in the ordinary and supercritical states are considered as well as processes of radiolysis of water; peculiarities of corrosion of fuel cladding; current options for the practical implementation of reactors of this type. Specific proposals have been formulated for the selection of materials for fuel cladding and their testing under conditions that are as close as possible to those that will be realized in future reactors of this type.
