Research methods: theoretical (analysis of scientific and educational literature, programs, concepts, studying and generalization of the experience in teaching foreign languages in primary school of general educational institutions);empirical (conversations with teachers and pupils, questionnaires, pedagogical observation, modeling, diagnostics); experimental (approbation of theoretical positions, set out in the concept, methodological recommendations, content of the teaching manual).The scientific novelty of the obtained research results is: a) in the definition and scientific substantiation of the goals and content of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages for primary schoolchildren based on the principles of communicative, activity, personality-oriented and culturological approaches andprovide for the formation of foreign-language communicative competence among pupils, which contributes to the improvement of their foreign-language communicative experience, as well as the level of education, development and upbringing; b) in the definition and scientific substantiation of the pedagogical technology of mastering the content of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages in accordance with the individual peculiarities, possibilities, interests, abilities, inclinations, motives and communicative intentions of pupils.The theoretical significance of the study is: a) in determining the didactic and methodological foundations of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages in primary school; b) in scientific substantiation of the componentsfor foreign language communicative competence of junior pupils;c) in the definition, scientific substantiation and development of principles for the selection of competence-oriented foreign language teaching content at primary school; d) definition and scientific substantiation of the levels in formation and characterization of criteria for assessing the level of formation for foreign language communicative competence of primary schoolchildren. The practical value of the study is to provide a system of foreign language education in primary school: a) the concept of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages for junior pupils; b) a teaching and methodical manual on the didactic and methodical foundations of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages for primary schoolchildren; c) methodological recommendations on the organization of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages in primary school.The results of the intermediate report: the domestic and foreign experience of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages in general educational institutions and scientific and pedagogical principles for constructing the content of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages for junior pupils in Ukraine and abroad are analysed and summarized;the didactic and methodical foundations of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages in primary school, the principles for the selection of competence-oriented foreign language teaching at primary school, essence and component composition of the foreign language communicative competence of junior pupils, requirements for the content and structure of the EMC in a foreign language for pupils of grades 1-4 are determined and scientifically substantiated;conceptual approaches, didactic and methodical principles of designing competence-oriented content of foreign language learning for primary schoolchildren, a system of exercises and tasks for the formation of foreign language competence in junior pupils in reading are developed;the educational environment, which promotes the formation of foreign language communicative competence in primary school pupils, modern means of teaching foreign-language communication among primary schoolchildren are characterized;the psychological and pedagogical conditions for the introduction of competency-oriented teaching of foreign languages in primary school are outlined; the essence and character of foreign language texts for reading (types, forms, functions, volume) in primary school and requirements to them according to competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages are explored;the types, forms and methods of controlling the level for formation of foreign language competence in reading by the pupils of primary school are determined and characterized; the concept of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages of primary school pupils was developed and its main principles were approved;questionnaire of foreign languages teachers on specific issues of teaching foreign languages of 1-4 grades pupils of the NEC is conducted and its results are analysed; the manuscript "The conception of competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages for primary schoolchildren" was prepared for publication;the theoretical principles from the Conception on manuals of elective courses and the Educational programme of elective courses in foreign languages for senior school of general educational establishments, the contents of manuals for elective courses, prepared on the results of the research work in 2016, were introduced.The results of the approbation, highlighted in the publications of the researchers (29) and on the site of the Institute of Pedagogics of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine (4), in speeches on mass scientific and practical events (16), testify to the effectiveness of the developed principles on the productive support of the process of teaching foreign languages in the profile school.On the topic of research 1 monograph, 4 textbooks of elective foreign language courses for senior school, 20 articles and 4 theses have been published. 32 results of research work, obtained in the reporting and previous years, have been introduced into educational practice of secondary schools and regional institutes of postgraduate pedagogical education of Ukraine.
