Objective: hygienic substantiation and development of a system of medical and social measures to optimize academic activity of academically capable children during their adaptation to the basic school under the conditions of meritocratic education. Methods: sanitary-hygienic assessment of conditions of training, hygienic life activity study, clinical, psychological and pedagogical, statistical methods. Results: according to the study results the authors identified hygienic issues of the introduction of meritocratic education in the primary school, investigated the influence of the family on the academic activity of academically capable students, identified the gender features of mental performance of academically capable children during the passage from elementary to primary school, the influence of meritocratic education on the formation of skills of healthy lifestyle of students; it is proved that introduction of meritocratic education system in the main school under the program "Intellect of Ukraine" is accompanied by the intensification of the educational process on the basis of integrated combination of educational models: enrichment, problematization and deepening. Novelty: based on the hygienic substantiation and development of medical and psycho-hygienic measures system for the optimization of educational activities, the technology of medical and psychological support of academically capable students of institutions of general secondary education is proposed, which introduction would facilitate the improvement of their school adaptation. Efficiency: implementation of psycho-hygienic measures to maintain a stable level of mental performance and targeted programming for the preservation and strengthening of the health of academically capable students during adaptation to the basic school would facilitate the optimization of hygienic control over the introduction of new pedagogical technologies in the educational process and prevention of non-communicable diseases among children of middle school age.
