The object of the research is the process of teaching students of non-linguistic specialities foreign languages for specific purposes. The subject of the research is modern approaches, methods and techniques of foreign language teaching in non-linguistic higher educational institutions. The purpose of the research is to study and substantiate effective approaches, methods and techniques of foreign language teaching, to highlight theoretical and practical aspects of foreign language teaching in non-linguistic higher educational institutions. The fundamentals of the competency-based and professionally oriented approaches to teaching, methods of foreign language teaching, Common European Framework of references for language learning, and the theory of higher education didactics constitute the theoretical and methodological basis of the study. The following research methods were used when conducting research: scientific literature analysis, synthesis, theoretical generalization, comparison, study and generalization of international teaching experience, pedagogical observation, interviews and survey of students and teachers. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the improvement of theoretical and methodical grounds and practical recommendations for intensifying foreign language teaching and enhancing students' cognitive activity. The practical value of the study is that the effective forms and methods of foreign language teaching students of non-linguistic specialities have been summarized; electronic learning courses in such disciplines as "Foreign Language", "Foreign Language for Specific Purposes", "Second Foreign Language", "Foreign Language of Scientific Communication" have been developed on the basis of the Moodle system. Theoretical and practical groundwork can be used in the process of teaching future specialists foreign languages for specific purposes, for the development of curricula, distance courses, tutorials, methodical guidelines, etc.
