The theoretical and practical recommendations on the management of the potential of social and economic systems and the mechanisms of increasing the competitiveness of the enterprise are substantiated. A hierarchical model of the object constituents of the management system by the application of the formalized method of the hierarchy analysis method was developed, which allowed to form a mechanism for managing the objective components of the potential of socio-economic systems and to increase the effectiveness of its implementation. The method of realization of complex estimation of social and economic efficiency of managerial decisions in the territorial and economic subsystems is developed. Based on the results of the conceptual and theoretical analysis of the approaches to managing the potential of the socio-economic system, the priority was given to the formation of a mechanism for evaluation and subsequent management of the potential, taking into account the influence of factors of the environment, as well as the stages of the life cycle of the system, which intensifies its sustainable development. The interpretation of the enterprise management mechanism as a social-economic system is explored. The various points of view of researchers concerning the complex approach to the process of interaction between different subsystems participating in managerial processes are studied and systematized. The main tasks of enterprises as a social-economic system in modern conditions, which promote their development, are determined, the need to change the social orientation of the management system in accordance with the adaptation of the enterprise to the unstable environment. The interconnection of ecologically-oriented activity of the enterprise and its competitiveness is substantiated.
