Background for the research is the Law of Ukraine «On ratification of the Convention of Biological Diversity» (1994).
The aim of the work is to summarize the available data on the implementation of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and national biodiversity conservation goals (enacted by the Law of Ukraine «On the Main Principles (Strategy) of the National Environmental Policy of Ukraine for the period until 2020», 2010). The results of the work are an integral part of the Sixth National Report on the Implementation of the Convention on Biodiversity by Ukraine.
The legal acts, reports of sociological companies, research institutes and public organizations, scientific publications and own scientific data, and other information from open sources were analyzed. As a result, we identified key events and activities for the period 2013-2018 that have influenced the progress of the implementation of the Aichi targets and the implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. We also present summary for the state of biodiversity in Ukraine.
Many of the measures are partially effective, which is primarily due to the lack of monitoring of most of the implementation tasks of the Convention and inadequate funding. The weakness of monitoring mechanisms is one of the main obstacles to an objective assessment of progress in all areas related to the conservation of biodiversity.
