The effect of light photon energy on excitation and transformation of derivatives of hemoglobin (complexes of hemoglobin molecules with CO, O2 and CO2 ligands) is investigated, which leads to spectral changes. A significant difference in the quantum yields of photodissociation of oxy- and carboxyhemoglobin can be used in the treatment of poisoning by carbon monoxide by selective forced expansion of HbCO in the blood with minimal effect on the component of HbO2. A slight decrease in HbO2 concentration due to photodissociation is easy to compensate, using hyperventilation with pure oxygen during irradiation.
