The purpose of researches is to study the features of growth and development the drought-resistant perennial grasses new sorts and varieties with increased adaptive potential, high coenotic activity, competitiveness and productive effect under the arid conditions of the Ukraine south; identify the plants' prospective by morphological features and productivity at the population and cenotic levels and also the development of the resource-saving technology to improve the degenerate natural forage lands in the Ukrainian southern Steppe. Research methods are field and laboratory experiments. Based on the results of the researches, a resource-saving technology has been developed to improve the degenerate forage lands of the Ukrainian southern steppe. This technology provides a green mass yield of - 122.2-173.0 c / ha with a dry matter yield of 34.9-48.9 c / ha, fodder units - 23 7-34.2 c / ha and digestible protein - 2, 4-3.67 q / ha. In addition, when it is used, the collection of hay is - 42.3-57.0 c / ha. The profitability level in the pasture using of land - 82.6-87.3%, for the hay production - 204.5-191.2%, with a green mass cost of 19.2-18.7 UAH / c and 59.1-61 8 UAH / c of hay. The developed technology allows improving the ecological state of the environment. The using of agrophytocenoses pasture-grassland models consist of the promising drought-resistant perennial grasses varieties provides an increase in the natural forage lands grass stands productivity by 3-4 times (up to 80-120 centners / ha); it prolongs the use of the created agrophytocenosis up to 10 years or more; and provides environmentally friendly feed. The technology was developed for the improving the degenerate natural forage lands, their restoration and the preservation of natural steppe agrophytocenoses. It has a protective environmental effect. The scope of its using is the environmental units and livestock farms in the southern region of Ukraine.
