The purpose of the work is to create a model, scientifically based and proven methodology of the forming and improving students' interlingual competence through the knowledge of the language role in the process of learning professional-oriented foreign language material. To achieve the goal, to analyze the role of foreign-language professional communicative competence while mastering a specialty in higher educational institutions, we used a comprehensive method, which included a system of correlated pedagogical research methods: 1) theoretical methods are the analysis of scientific, linguistic, psychological and pedagogical, methodical literature about the research; 2) empirical methods are visiting classes and the analysis, testing, survey. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that it: 1) clarified and deepened understanding of the concepts "activity-oriented approach", "interlingual competence", "contrastive discourse", "foreign language borrowing"; 2) theoretically grounded, systematized and experimentally tested technology for the formation of foreign language professional-oriented competence of non-philological students and mechanisms and means of achieving an adequate intercultural interpretation. The results of the research and the conclusions can be used in the educational process in order to increase the level of interlingual competence of students, in the preparation of curricula and in the preparation of optional courses.
