O., Registration Date 20-12-2019 Organization M.M.Grishko National Botanical Garden of Ukrainian Academy of Science popup.description2 SUMMARY Research work report of the Dendrology Department for 2015-2019, state registration number 0115U000708: 325 pages, 69 tables, 52 images, 174 sources, 63 pages of addendums. Arboretum plants in M.M. Gryshko National botanical garden NАS of Ukraine were one of the objects of the research as well as their biological and ecological features, inter-species diversity, also street plantings in Kyiv city, plantings in old parks in Kharkiv oblast and some other subjects of the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine. Main goals of the research were to mobilize output material and to perform primary introduction tests of arboretum plants in M.M. Gryshko National botanical garden; to determine the changes in old parks plantings in order to rehabilitate and preserve historical and natural legacies; to conduct phenological observations in order to clarify "plants' biological answer to the climate change"; to specify winter- and drought-resistant exponents of certain species for their further usage; to assess the possibility of cedar gardens creation: to reveal morphological patterns in local mutational origin coniferous tree crown fragment samples: to rationale parameters for the future decorative cultivars description methods for species tests; to research allelopathic properties of soils in coniferous plant areas, as well as properties of five lilac species tree waste, as well as properties of macro- and micro-elements distribution in soils under a lilac monoculture in order to develop practices to improve conditions in coniferous and lilac monoplantings; to evaluate the influence of pests on coniferous monoplantings condition in order to develop practices to improve said condition; to asses plantings condition under different levels of environmental pollution. Arboretum collection has been replenished with plants of 122 species, varieties, cultivars and hybrids, 61 of which are new for the arboretum. New perspective for introduction genera (18) and species of coniferous have been determined; a significant part of collection plants has been identified and chronicled on plans and in the arboretum database; it has been determined that nowadays plantation changes in old parks are mostly caused by draughts and following pest infestations; a 10-14 day difference between present-day plant observations and 10-50 years old data has been established on the following examples: Pinacea and Cupressaceae genera gymnosperm plants pollen dispersion terms, Syringa L., Philadelphus L., Deutzia Thunb., Alnus Mill. genera plants flowering terms; the possibility of cedar gardens creation from Pinus koraiensis Siebold & Zucc. and P. pumila (Pall.) Regel. has been proven; an experimental base of somatic mutations of gymnosperms has been created, it consists of 84 plant samples which belong to 6 genera; it has been established that under coniferous plantations compounds of phenolic nature accumulate, which can cause soils to become phytotoxic; an order in which coniferous plants weakened by draughts get colonized by pests has been identified, practices to reduce the number of pests have been developed; it has been established that winter-resistance of Deutzia genus plants is not caused by anthocyanin concentration per see, but by the ability of said plants to react with a sharp increase of anthocyanin synthesis; potentially more frost-resistant plants of Aesculus L., Philadelphus, Deutzia genera and more draught-resistant plants of the last two genera have been identified; it has been established that the lack of fruiting among Forsythia genus plants is due to their affiliation to one clone within the species. Technogenic environmental pollution analysis of the city has been conducted, component makeup and main sources of said pollution have been established. Species composition of the city tree plantations has been determined, vitality of said plants depending on pollution levels according to the developed complex evaluation scale has been established. A variety of photosynthesis efficiency traits has been established in the field environment, which allowed for their comparison between the most prevalent species. KEY WORDS: introduction, arboretum, plantation changes in old parks, phenology, cedar gardens, somatic mutations of gymnosperms, coniferous plants pests, allelopathy, frost- and draught-resistance, street plantings, photosynthesis efficiency.
