V. Ya. Yuriev popup.description2 Object: Spring wheat and spring barley lines, breeding and mutant corn lines, waxy (wx) mutation carriers with amylopectin starch and wild type starch. Purpose: To create starting material for the breeding of corn hybrids, spring wheat and spring barley varieties with waxy starch in grain, suitable for food production. The effects of wx genes on technological and economically valuable traits of spring bread wheat were studied and, on this basis, six spring bread wheat lines characterized by altered fractional composition of starch (the amylose content does not exceed 1%, waxy starch) were created and transferred to the Laboratory of Spring Wheat Breeding of the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev. The lines are characterized by resistance to diseases and pests at the standard level (resistance to covered smut - 7 points, to brown leaf rust - 6 points, to mildew - 7 points, to larvae of wheat and Hessian flies - 5 points). The effects of wx genes on valuable economic characteristics of spring barley were studied, and on this basis, three accessions of two-row spring barley with waxy starch were distinguished and transferred to the Laboratory of Spring Barley Breeding. They are characterized by a high content of oleic acid in oil (exceeding the standard by 2.5-4.5%), high antioxidant activity (exceeding the standard by 12-15%). They have resistance to diseases and pests at the standard level (resistance to head smut - 8 points, to barley net blotch - 8 points, to larvae of the Swedish fly - 6 points). In addition, these accessions were transferred to the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine as valuable material for barley breeding for grain quality. The effects of wx genes on the technological and economically valuable characteristics of corn were studied, and on this basis, two lines of this crop with waxy starch were created and transferred to the Laboratory of Corn Breeding and Seed Production Product Description popup.authors popup.nrat_date 2020-04-02 Close
