The object of the study is the marine ecosystem within the territorial waters of Ukraine, the Black and Azov Seas.
The purpose of the work is to assess the current state of marine ecosystems, the trends of changes and to supplement the database of the regional data bank of the Black and Azov Seas.
The research method is a statistical analysis of expeditionary observations, a cartographic analysis of data.
Based on the historical and current data set of hydrophysical, hydrochemical and hydrobiological observations, satellite data of chlorophyll-a content on the surface of the Azov-Black Sea basin and literary sources, the state of the ecosystems of the Black and Azov seas in 2017 was assessed. The features of natural and anthropogenic processes that determine the development of eutrophication of the shelf waters and environmentally hazardous phenomena associated with it are revealed. This assessment of pollution by toxic chemical compounds (oil and chlorinated hydrocarbons, heavy metals and radioactive elements) of the marine environment. The presented assessment of the status of hydrobionts (phyto- and zooplankton, mayo- and macrozoobenthos), as well as the assessment of the ecological status of certain areas of the Azov-Black Sea basin with modern methods of bioindication and biotesting. The trends in the ecological status of marine ecosystems in recent years have been established. Information provided on the prospects of scientific research in the field of the protection of the marine environment of Ukraine.
