The D. antarctica population from Lagotellerie Island had the lowest genetic diversity among the maritime Antarctic populations that have been studied previously and was genetically distant from them. C. quitensis populations had a genetic diversity of 3-8 times higher compared to D. antarctica populations from the same area, and intra-population variations that exceeded the level of inter-population differences.
