The 2,5-substituted 1,3-oxazoles with 4 triphenylphosphonium (TPP-) group were found to be a new class of non-peptide inhibitors of furin. They inactivated the enzyme by a mechanism of competitive, non-competitive or mixed inhibition depending on the their chemical structure.
