These vectors were used to transform the Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain BY4742, as well as the BY/tpi25 strain with reduced triosephosphate isomerase activity. Overexpression of the GPP2 gene did not influence glycerol production in S. cerevisiae, whereas recombinant strains with overexpression of the GPD1 gene or the fusion gene GPD1-GPP2fus produced respectively 8 g/L or 11 g/L of glycerol during alcohol fermentation. The combination of overexpression of the fusion gene GPD1-GPP2fus with a decrease in the activity of the triosephosphate isomerase provided an additional increase in the level of glycerol production - up to 13 g/L, which is 5.6 times more compared to the wild type strain BY4742.
