The paper found that existing on MK "Azovstal" technology heat treatment of rails is not capable of providing a high level of hardness on the rail cross section (to a depth of 22 mm), meeting the requirements of advanced foreign standards (GOST R 51685-2013, EN 13674-1-2011). First established patterns of phase transformations during continuous cooling steel with 0.80% C, 0,25% Si, 0,97% Mn, 0,055% V. issued recommendations on parameters of heat treatment of the rail head. Prospective steel composition for high-strength rails has been developed.
