The object of the study - documents related to social protection of citizens. The purpose of the work is to determine the principles, criteria and methodology of qualitative examination of the value of documents related to social protection of citizens. Research methods - scientific analysis and synthesis, modelling, structural and functional analysis, generalization. As a result of the research work, methodological recommendations were prepared to carry out the examination of the value and selection for archival storage of documents related to social protection of citizens, which should help to solve the urgent problem of optimization of the selection for archival storage of documents resulting from the administrative activity of legal entities all forms of property and individuals-entrepreneurs and can be used to confirm the legal rights and interests of citizens, to ensure their of preservation.
