Research aim is to develop a methodology for determining the optimal structure of the fleet, the main dimensions and characteristics of river transport vessels, river tugboats and vessels and mixed river-sea navigation structures, which is aimed at creating efficient vehicles for the river transport system of Ukraine. Research methods: analysis, synthesis, simulation, ship theory, theory of random functions Theoretical and practical results: The current state of the river water transport system of Ukraine and the legislative support of river transport operations have been analyzed. Virtual spaces of functioning of vehicles on the rivers of Ukraine have been developed. The problems of functioning of the following types of vehicles are formulated: single river transport vessels and self-propelled river barges; river structures of ships and barges, the main moving element of which is a river vessel or a self-propelled river barge; river tow structures formed by the articulation of a tugboat with a set of barges; single vessels of mixed river-sea navigation; offshore barges, in which the tugboat serves several barges, transporting one of them and leaving the others in the offshore and river ports under unloading. The concept of development of the water transport system of Ukraine is proposed. In the NUS towing tank a study was conducted on the propulsion of a model of a fundamentally new barge-tow structure for the carriage of river-sea cargo. The optimization problems of determining the perspective types and optimal characteristics of river vehicles are formulated.
