Subject of research: psychological and pedagogical principles of teaching children with cognitive impairment in the context of competence approach. Purpose of the research: theoretical substantiation and development of scientific-methodical and educational-methodical support of teaching of children with disorders of cognitive development. Methods of work: to ensure the validity of the provisions and conclusions and to solve the problems of the study, a set of methods is provided, among which are theoretical: analysis (logical-theoretical, comparative) of psycho-pedagogical literature to reveal the nature and features of psychological and pedagogical foundations of teaching children with disorders of cognitive development and definition of basic concepts; educational and didactic literature related to the teaching of children in pre-school educational institutions, elementary and primary schools in Ukraine and abroad; empirical: psychological-pedagogical observation, questioning, testing, analysis of student's works and educational-methodical documentation, psychological-pedagogical experiment. Results: A systematic approach to the study of the psyche is analyzed and summarized; the analysis of the content of training and organization of the educational process of children with disabilities of cognitive development is carried out and the directions of its modernization in the conditions of competence approach are determined, the psychological and pedagogical principles of teaching of children with disabilities of cognitive development are theoretically substantiated.
