The results of proton beam dynamics computer modeling in a section of a linear accelerator with alternating-phase focusing, in which magnetic inserts of a neodymium-iron-boron, or samarium-cobalt alloy are embedded in the drift tubes, to provide magnetic insulation of the gaps between the drift tubes, using a magnetic field, which parallel to the surface of the ends of the drift tubes, are presented. The main goal of the work was to determine the influence of the magnetic field of such inserts on the passage of a proton beam through a section of a linear accelerator with alternating phase focusing. Computer modeling of the dynamics of the proton beam showed a positive effect of the magnetic field of the inserts on the passage of the beam through the system the beam current losses at the exit from the accelerator section decreased.
The results of a study of 239Pu production in radiative capture reaction of neutrons by 238U, as well as the number of fission reactions of natural uranium in the deep subcritical uranium assembly QUINTA, which is irradiated with 660 MeV protons, are presented. The experiment was conducted on the PHASOTRON accelerator (JINR, Dubna). The main goal of the work is a comparison of experimental data and the results of computer modeling. Numerical simulation was performed using four MCNPX code models: Bertini/Dresnen, Bertini/Abla, INCL4/Drensnen, INCL4/Abla. Good agreement was obtained between experimental data and calculation results. It was shown that 238U fission reactions are more likely to be observed in the region with a more hard neutron energy spectrum, which is located around the axis of the QUINTA assembly of uranium. It was shown that the radiative capture reactions of neutrons by 238U are dominant in the peripheral region of the uranium target, where the neutron spectrum is softer.
