The analysis of modern trends in the development of world and domestic ferrous metallurgy. The methodology for assessing the prospects for the development of metallurgy in Ukraine has been improved using the theory of probability and the expert-mathematical apparatus (Harrington's desirability function), which allows us to create a single objective function of multicriteria tasks. The generalizing criterion of probability of achieving the planned indicators of the prospective development of metallurgy in Ukraine is determined. The subject of new research and development work is proposed to determine the impact of environmental parameters on the future of the metallurgical industry.
