Study object: existing geographic information system of forest management and forestry of Ukraine.
Aim of the study: to modernize the existing GIS of forest management on the basis of modern geodatabase servers and software GIS platforms by means of creating a geoportal as a basic tool for collecting and accumulating geospatial information and providing users with it regardless of the Internet access.
Research methods: studying of existing flows of accumulation of information about forests with its subsequent analysis regarding its completeness and reliability; doing research on the need for relevant information among forestry experts of different levels; development of software and user manuals for forest management and forest utilization at the enterprise, at the region and industry in general.
The following software components were used to develop the GIS of the forestry enterprise: PostgreSQL 9.6, Postgis 2.3.2, QGIS 3.2.3 Bonn, Python 3.6, PyQt5, SpatiaLite 4.3.0. In addition, an interactive environment was used to compile the PyCharm software project, an interactive interface design tool for QtDesigner, Java and Android Studio users.
The development was solely performed on free software. The web application allows you to use it on devices with any operating system. Inquiries made by selected features, with subsequent display of the results on the map or in the form of information, greatly facilitate and simplify selection of sites for planning forestry activities.
Certain functions of the geoportal are developed exclusively for the public. They are such functions as displaying places of clear felling and recreation areas on the map. Another area is a line of software programmes for forest protection. This project involves obtaining information in forests, which shows presence of pests and diseases, by means of mobile devices. It is aimed at prompt detecting of forest disease centers and defining their location.
