 As a result of the research, various aspects of the formation and functioning of self-government bodies were first comprehensively investigated: the emergence of self-government elements, the legal regulation of various forms of self-government, the peculiarities and activities of self-government bodies in the Dnieper Ukraine and Western Ukraine, the relationship of self-government bodies with the central government. The results of the research work on the stated problems will be widely used, first of all, in the creation of synthetic works on the history of Ukraine, educational products, will orient a wide range of scientists and the teaching staff in expanding their scientific knowledge, materials of lectures, will help in the development of practical steps in the field public administration, reform of local self-government, will allow to deepen understanding of the essence of civil society in general and in the historical territories of Ukraine in particular.
