The purpose of this work is to determine the quality of the insulation of the traction motor NB-406 by observations of reverse voltage based on the classification of wear and tear of the diagnosed insulation, as well as to determine the estimates of operating time to restore or replace insulation. Research methods. Methods of probability theory, mathematical modeling, cluster and discriminant analysis were used in the work. Scientific novelty. The study proposes a method for predicting the residual life of the hull insulation of the traction motor NB-406 locomotive using the measurements of the reverse operation. Indicators for solving the problem of classification of housing insulation states are offered. Classes of states of case isolation taking into account necessity of its restoration are allocated. The reliability and validity of scientific statements, conclusions and results are based on strictly proven and correctly used conclusions of mathematical analysis and mathematical modeling. The reliability is also confirmed by experimental studies of the quality of the housing insulation of traction motors using a previously developed device for diagnosing the condition of the TED housing insulation.
