 For the first time, a bibliography was elaborated, a comprehensive historiographical analysis of existing scientific research on this issue was carried out, a search, analysis, systematization and classification of numerous source materials, primarily of archival origin (obtained from the Central State Archive of higher authorities associations and organizations of Ukraine, the Sectoral State Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine, the state archives of Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia regions), as well as materials (press publications, regulations, educational literature, etc.) contained in the funds of the National Library them. V. Vernadsky, Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine named after V. Stefanyk. In addition, sources of personal origin were studied, first of all the memoirs of victims and eyewitnesses of Stalin's repressions in the western regions of Ukraine.
