For this, new activity of well known macrolide antibiotic azithromycin as an anti-biofilm agent in a combined antibacterial therapy will be studied. Specifically, an effectiveness of azithromycin in a combination with the antibiotic of last reserve but low effectiveness colistin to combat antibiotic resistance in MDR K.pneumoniae will be investigated. One more aim is to investigate whether azithromycin can increase a phenotypic sensitivity to β-lactam antibiotics. Pharmacological mitigation of β-lactam resistance in MDR K.pneumoniae would allow a development and implementation of the first national recommendations in treatment of K.pneumoniae infections.
