Vernadskii Institute of General & Inorganic Chemistry NAS of Ukraine popup.description2  A series of zirconium phthalocyanines with out-of-plane ligands containing various functional groups, in particular with halogen carboxylic acids, 4-mercaptobenzoic and citric acid, lysine, arginine, and dehydroacetic acid derivatives, was synthesized. Their composition and structure are established, spectral properties are investigated. The synthesized phthalocyanines have been shown to effectively inhibit the amyloid aggregation of beta-lactoglobulin, insulin, and lysozyme in acidic media, and the binding of these compounds to native and denatured beta-lactoglobulin has also been shown. The morphology of protein aggregates formed by BLG, insulin, and lysozyme in the presence or absence of zirconium phthalocyanines modified with citric, mercaptobenzoic acid, and lysine was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Zirconium bis-(4-mercaptobenzoato)phthalocyanine has been proposed as an antiamyloidogenic agent that inhibits heat-induced aggregation of proteins of various structures, making it potentially suitable for use in the food industry.
