V. Ya. Yuriev popup.description2 Study object - genetic diversity of sunflower varieties in terms of total antioxidant activity and tocopherol isomer composition. Purpose - to select starting material with altered contents of tocopherol isomers and increased antioxidant activity in seeds for sunflower breeding for quality. The antioxidant capacity in sunflower accessions was determined in a conventional test using a stable radical DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl). The tocopherol content and isomer composition were determined by high pressure liquid chromatography (State Standard of Ukraine EN 12822: 2005) on a chromatograph Smartline with an ultraviolet detector. Analysis distinguished the best sunflower varieties in terms of antioxidant activity: Cavisos (41.5%), Peredovik (40.6%), Oreshek (38.7%), Shchelkunchyk (37.5%), VNIIMK 1646 (37, 5%), Chakynskyi 931 (36.6%), Kazachyi (36.3%), Liuks (36.2%), Peresvet (35.3%), Kirovogradskyi 23 (35.3%), Favorit (34, 7%), Chakynskyi 77 (34.6%), Bohucharets (34.4%), Voronezhskiy 439 (34.3%), Povolzhskiy 60 (33.6%), Sundak (33.3%), IR00406 (33) , 1%), Nadyozhnyy (33.0%), Krasnodarets (33.1%), Voronezhskiy 154 (32.6%), Smena (32.4%), Slobozhanskyi (32.2%), Voskhod (32.2%), Veidelevskyi (31.3%), Chkalovskiy Gigant (31.1%), Rodnik (31.0%), and Stepnyak (30.2%). Five of them received NGRRU certificates as accessions with high antioxidant activity, as well as certificates for the provided information on the antioxidant activity in sunflower accessions. Of the selected sunflower accessions, along with high antioxidant activity, some varieties had a high performance: Sundak (119.33 g), Slobozhanskyi (110.7 g), Peresvet (104.43 g); high oil content in seeds: Chakynskyi 77 (53.58%), Peresvet (51.67%), Kirovogradskyi 23 (50.53%), Veidelevskyi (49.95%). Accessions with increased contents of tocopherol isomers (Kh1334V [β - 7.23%], Kh134V [γ - 2.49%], Oskil [δ - 2.94%]) are recommended for sunflower breeding for seed quality as starting material Product Description popup.authors Antsyferova Olha V.
