The hormonal dependence of adenomyosis and the key role of estrogen and progesterone hormones in its existence have been confirmed.
It is proposed to consider foci of adenomyosis as an autonomous source of production of estrogen and progesterone hormones. The ovaries directly affect the synthesis of progesterones and, indirectly, estrogens. Endometriotic lesions are stimulated by the presence of positive estrogen and, to a lesser extent, progesterone expression in the eutopic endometrium.
