The object of research is the Ukrainian national idea as a factor of consolidation and realization of the Ukrainian political nation.
The purpose of the work is to analyze the problems of the development of the Ukrainian national idea as a factor of consolidation and realization of the Ukrainian political nation.
Research methods - analysis of the national characteristics of the Ukrainians, their way of life, national character and consciousness, the national idea itself led to the widespread use of the method of the so-called "genetic research", which encourages to consider the object of study in the process of its origin, formation and change.
Novelty. Theoretical and methodological development of the Ukrainian national idea has passed a thorny path from the mythologized perception of the world to the development of the rational national and historical consciousness. It can be more or less confidently stated that for the Ukrainian ethnos this process, beginning in the late XVII at the beginning of the XVIII century, in mythologized form, reaching discursive thinking, its rational forms, embracing the XIX-XX centuries, continues to this day, as Ukraine is in the global challenges of time.
In accordance with the main directions, which are presented in the report in 9 sections, the results of the research work of research and teaching staff of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Documentation and Information Activity are given. The results are aimed at improving the principles and approaches in the formation and implementation of the Ukrainian national idea on the basis of the theoretical justification of the European experience of building a democratic society.
