The purpose of the study is to theoretically substantiate the scientific and methodological foundations of computer modeling of cognitive tasks for the formation of students' competencies and to develop a methodology for their use in the educational process. Research methods - theoretical: analysis of philosophical, psychological, pedagogical, scientific and methodological literature and dissertation research in order to study the conceptual and categorical apparatus; methods of synthesis, comparison, generalization of domestic and foreign theories, concepts and approaches, theoretical and experimental data; design and modeling of computer modeling systems, cognitive tasks. In the process of research, the conceptual and terminological apparatus of the research was determined; the definition of a new concept "computer modeling system" (SCMod) was substantiated and proposed; the types of cognitive tasks and features of the use of computer models in teaching students of natural and mathematical subjects were determined; reasonable classification of computer models; the stages of development of research tasks are determined. The model of the use of cognitive tasks for the formation of competencies of students in natural and mathematical subjects using computer models has been substantiated and developed; the conceptual model of SCMod was developed; a model of using a computer modeling system (SCMod) for the formation of students' competencies in natural and mathematical subjects; models of implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of SCMod as an innovative educational IR technology; selection criteria for SCMod; forms and methods of using SCMod in the educational process, forms of knowledge control.
