Preparative amounts of eEF1A1 and eEF1A2 isoforms of translation elongation factor were isolated from the rabbit liver or rabbit muscles using gel filtration, cation and anion exchange chromatography, and hydroxyapatite chromatography, respectively. These proteins will be used as targets in the study of autoimmune antibodies in the serum of patients with type 1 diabetes.
