The purpose of work is the development of practically important catalytic methodologies for the synthesis of N,O,S-heterocyclic compounds in the reactions of C-H activation, aziridination of allenes and related systems, 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, as well as multicomponent cyclocondensations of β-ketosulfones. We have analyzed the reaction mechanism of a coupling of 1,2,3-benzotriazoles with allenes catalyzed by Rh-diphosphine ligand. Regardless of the ligand being used, the reaction proceeds via a three-step catalytic cycle (oxidative addition, hydrometalation, reductive elimination). The preference for the N2-selective reaction channel arises from a unrecognized electronic mechanism, namely, a more stabilizing electrostatic interaction between the electron-enriched region at the N1 atom of one of tautomers with the positively charged Rh during N1-Rh bond formation in the rate-determining N1-H oxidative addition step. For the first time, stereochemically pure hydroxyimines of the sulfolane series were obtained, and the possibilities of their use as catalysts/ligands were evaluated. When interacting of cis- and trans-4-amino-3-hydroxysulfolanes with aromatic aldehydes, in all cases, the formation of the corresponding vicinal hydroxyimines is observed. Compounds are characterized by different tautomeric forms depending on the structural features and nature of the solvent.
