The content of the subject competence of students in physics and the developed methodology for assessing the level of formation of the competence of students is clarified. Didactic principles and methodological requirements for the selection of the content of problems in physics. Competence-oriented methods of teaching physics have been developed, taking into account interdisciplinary integration. The methodological tools for the implementation of cross-cutting content lines, the development of the value component of students' subject competence have been further developed. The method of competence-oriented teaching of physics in classes with in-depth study is provided by the introduction of elements of STEM-education, the disclosure of the physical foundations of modern technology and technologies through penetration into the target, content, procedural and control components. The method contributes to the formation of students' ability to summarize what has been learned, to verify the accuracy of knowledge, apply them in a particular situation, to show their competence, creates conditions for professional self-determination of students. The component of the methodology is Technologies for identifying the levels of formation and assessment of subject competencies of high school students, based on the following approaches: comparison of results with educational goals, a variety of methods; availability of feedback; individual character; openness of requirements. The obtained results provide the transition from the traditional knowledge-oriented teaching methods to the competency, which contributes to the development of appropriate value orientations and the ability to apply knowledge and skills in real life situations.
