A method of competence-oriented teaching of the Ukrainian language to lyceum students has been developed; the system of competence-oriented exercises and tasks aimed at forming lyceum students' subject and key competencies is substantiated; the classification of means of competence-oriented teaching of the Ukrainian language which will promote realization of tasks of educational process, consider needs of distance learning is developed; the peculiarities of the organization of independent work on the Ukrainian language of lyceum students are singled out and characterized; a model of competency-oriented methodology aimed at changing attitudes: the attitude of the student to himself as a subject of school language education; the attitude of the student and teacher to the Ukrainian language; the teacher's attitude to the student as a full-fledged subject of the educational process; the method of competence-oriented teaching of the Ukrainian language to lyceum students at the standard level was introduced, laid down in textbooks and manuals, in experimental educational institutions, which contributed to the implementation of the following tasks: formation of internal motivation to learn Ukrainian; education of values to the state language, communication with it; providing knowledge and skills in the Ukrainian language of functionality, efficiency; formation of generalized knowledge and skills (analyze, synthesize, compare, generalize, draw their own conclusions). Criteria for assessing the educational achievements of students in the Ukrainian language are proposed. The use of research results provides quality language education in the lyceum at the standard level through the implementation of the following educational tasks: the formation of internal motivation to learn the Ukrainian language; education of values to the state language, communication with it.
