During the reporting period, the results were presente at scientific and practical conferences at the international and domestic levels. Summarizing the results of this study, we can conclude that cognitive impairment is a common complication of both pre-existing diabetes mellitus and newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus2. Thus, for type 1 diabetes is from 54.5% to 63.6%, among patients with type 2 diabetes - from 20.0% to 96.7%, for newly diagnosed - 8.3% to 96.7 % depending on the tests performed to assess cognitive impairment. Metformin treatment in patients with newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus has been show to improve memory function, executive function, reduce DPN, increase catalase, glutathione peroxidase, BDNF, and decrease HIF-1 mRNA. After 10 days of treatment with alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) in patients with diabetes mellitus, the total score of all CVT probably decreased and the frequency of the expressed clinical form of CAN decreased by 5.8%. Further research in this direction is promising given the possibility of improving preventive measures.
