Ways to solve the problem of increasing active and passive road safety are considered, changes in the volume of transport environmental load are studied on the example of Kharkiv. The question of expediency of definition is considered traffic parameters in large cities, taking into account the dynamics of traffic flows. The description of practical realization of contour traffic control on the street and road network of Kharkiv is given. The estimation of influence of bicycle elements is defined infrastructure for the efficient operation of intersections. The purpose of the work is to increase traffic safety on the basis of research of traffic patterns in cities, on country roads, railway crossings. Research methods - mathematical and simulation modeling of traffic flows, including bicycle flows, analysis of safety indicators, probabilistic methods for determining the risks of accidents and distribution laws parameters of traffic flow. The analysis of transport and social safety of road traffic in Ukraine and abroad is carried out. The results on improving road safety are presented, promising measures for the organization of road traffic that affect on road safety and increase its efficiency.
