The object of research is the process of traffic of vehicles and pedestrians in urban transport systems and on public roads.
Ways to solve the problem of increasing active and passive road safety are considered, changes in the volume of transport environmental load are studied on the example of Kharkiv. The question of expediency of definition is considered

The analysis of transport and social safety of road traffic in Ukraine and abroad is carried out. The results on improving road safety are presented, promising measures for the organization of road traffic that affect
on road safety and increase its efficiency. Simulation models of traffic flow on the street and road network of Kharkiv are given.
