The aim of the research was to study physiological and biochemical characteristics and biofilm formation of bacteria associated with vascular plants of Antarctica Deschampsia antarctica and Colobanthus quitensis. The following objectives were performed: to find out the ability of isolates to utilize a wide range of carbon sources at low temperatures (+4) in order to determine their heterotrophic metabolism; evaluate the ability of isolates to use atmospheric nitrogen as the only source of nitrogen; to evaluate the ability of isolates to form biofilms at a wide temperature range with crystal violet assay; visualize the structure of biofilms formed by bacterial isolates. Microbiological, biochemical and microscopy methods were used to implement the tasks. Studies have shown heterotrophic metabolism and the ability of microorganisms to utilize a wide range of mono- and disaccharides, the ability to use atmospheric nitrogen as the sole source of nitrogen, the ability to form biofilms over a wide temperature range and the presence of DNA, cellulose and amyloid proteins in biofilms matrix
