Improvement of mathematical models and software to determine the most effective directions and measures for decarbonising the fuel-power complex, the implementation of which will contribute to ensuring the effective functioning of the country's energy complex, subject to fulfillment of international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
popup.description2
The purpose of the research is to improve mathematical models and software to determine the most effective directions and measures of decarbonization in the fuel-power complex, realization of which will assist providing of the effective functioning of national power sector in terms of international commitment to decline greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions.
The analysis of current GHG emissions in the power sector of Ukraine and factors of their formation was fulfilled. The list of existent and perspective technologies available for introduction in the terms of Ukraine to decline GHG emissions was formed. The analysis of national and European documentson for decarbonization of economics and power sector was performed.
The mathematical model of forecasting the functioning and development of the structure of generating capacities has been improved by taking into account the features of the introduction of the emissions trading system in Ukraine. The new mathematical model for determination of levelised cost of "green" hydrogen in the terms of Ukraine has been developed. Software for implementing these models were improved.
Ther have been made calculations on the introduction of emissions trading systemin the electricity sector of Ukraine, which showed that not exceeding the projected allowable emissions is possible only with low-cost reconstruction of TPP equipment, but it requires significant funds compared to the cost of purchasing additional emission permits and will not stimulate power companies to introduce these measures.
The levelised cost of "green" hydrogen in the terms of Ukraine for several schemes of electrolyzer connection is calculated.
A package of measures to reduce GHG emissions in energy sector of Ukraine has been formed, and a forecast of GHG emissions until 2040 has been made. The results of the work were used in the preparation of expert opinions on behalf of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
