The methods of determining the characteristics of elastic and viscoelastic composite materials using the data on the component characteristics are analyzed. The limits of the application of these methods are described. The analysis of approaches to determining the influence of the locus of concentrated loads points of application on the deformation and destruction of structural elements made of composite materials is given. Based on the methods developed by the authors to determine the parameters of collinear cracks in elastic and viscoelastic structural elements, the approaches to modeling and solving problems of structural elements crack resistance are analyzed. Recommendations for the use of models and methods of calculations are given.
