The purpose of the work is to develop a scientific and technical concept of functionally oriented design of packaging machines with high life cycle indicators and efficiency criteria. Research methods – morphological analysis and synthesis of typical functional modules of packaging machines of various functional groups; multi-criteria structural and parametric synthesis of functional modules; imitation and simulation modeling of the work of typical functional modules; natural and model experimental research with elements of the theory of multivariate analysis. Hierarchical structures of packaging machines of various functional groups were built with the establishment of logical and energetic connections between functional modules and their module-elements, morphological analysis and synthesis of functions and properties of functional modules was carried out with the determination of their rational combinations in the machine. Useful, harmful and neutral functions of various functional modules are highlighted. Multi-criteria optimization of module parameters was carried out and ways of minimizing harmful and neutral functions were found. The geometric, kinematic, and power parameters of new efficient designs of functional modules are theoretically and experimentally substantiated. Simulation modeling of the work of new designs of functional modules was carried out. Pilot samples of new typical functional modules of packaging machines of various functional groups were developed and manufactured. Comparative studies of new functional modules for manufacturability, functionality and energy efficiency were carried out, taking into account circular technologies.
