Subject of research: vascular plant species of the flora of Ukraine.
The goal and objectives of the work are a taxonomic and nomenclature inventory of the diversity of vascular plants of Ukraine, with the preparation of treatments for general and reference editions of the Identification Manual of Vascular Plants of Ukraine, a nomenclatural list of vascular plants, and other electronic and printed resources based on critical taxonomic, morphological, floristic and other studies.
Research methods: classic and modern methods of plant taxonomy and floristics, IT (digitization of herbarium collections, computer data processing, database maintenance, selected web technologies).
Based on original taxonomic and floristic studies of critical plant groups and generalization of literature, herbarium and other data on taxa, floristic and taxonomic treatments were prepared for taxa of the flora of vascular plants of Ukraine. Due to the analysis and generalization of recent taxonomic and phylogenetic information, the operational list of accepted names and synonyms of vascular plants of Ukraine has been updated; changes and corrections have been made to more than 1 800 species-rank and infraspecific taxa, including those assessed from a conservational viewpoint by the criteria and categories of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). A new evolutionarily important diploid species Chenopodium ucrainicum has been described. 72 nomenclatural novelties (species and intraspecific taxa) for plants of Ukraine and the world have been validated; 70 of them are included in international databases (IPNI – International Plant Names List, and POWO – Plants Of the World Online), of which 63 taxa are now accepted in POWO, indicating a high taxonomic and nomenclatural validity of the changes.
