Despite its involvement in a number of physiological functions, such as the regulation of motor activity
and the processing of sensory signals, spinal lamina X remains one of the least studied areas of the
central nervous system. In this study, we demonstrate that nociceptive afferent inputs to lamina X
neurons are presynaptically inhibited by homo- and heterosegmental afferents, as well as by descending
fibers from the corticospinal tract, dorsolateral and anterior funiculi.
