The object of research is the process of creating an obstacle to the spread of fire using water curtains. The subject of research is the influence of technological parameters of water curtains on the effectiveness of preventing the spread of fire. Purpose - to summarize the world experience and obtain new data on the use of water curtains to prevent the spread of fire and its hazards. Research methods - an experimental method of studying the shielding ability of water curtains against the penetration of heat flow, smoke and combustion products (field studies). Within the framework of the research work, technical characteristics were substantiated and test equipment was created to study the shielding ability of water curtains against the penetration of heat flow, smoke and combustion products. On the basis of analytical and experimental studies, draft Recommendations for the use of fire water curtains to prevent the penetration of heat, smoke and combustion products were prepared. For the first time, the paper substantiates the parameters for creating a recirculating continuous water curtain with high shielding properties against the penetration of radiant heat flux and fire hazards. The results of the work will be used by the SES units and interested institutions and organizations.
