popup.description1
The aim of the project is to achieve the highest possible set of strength properties for non-alloy or low-alloy (up to 5 wt.% Alloying elements in total) steels applicable in mass production, including the creation of gradient nanostructures
popup.description2
The object of research is the processes of heat treatment and structure formation of unalloyed and low-alloyed steels.
The purpose of the work is to develop research methods, purchase materials and equipment; creation and research of nanostructure with carbide strengthening in known steels.
Research methods are as follows: heat treatment of known unalloyed and low-alloyed steels, determination of mechanical properties of heat-treated samples, microstructure research using optical and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, measurement of hardness and microhardness, modeling of the composition and properties of high-strength steels.
Among known high-strength steels some specific steels were chosen for research. Preliminary modeling of the composition, processing, structure and properties of the new steel with increased structural strength was carried out. The approximate chemical composition of steel has been established as follows: from 0,4 %C to 0,5 %C; 2 %Si; 3 %Mn. Using the Thermo-Calc package, diagrams of isothermal decomposition of austenite and a diagram of decomposition of austenite during continuous cooling were modelled for new steel. Heat treatment of the produced samples was carried out to ensure a gradient nanostructure with carbide strengthening. It was established that steels with a high content of the eutectoid component should be heat treated with controlled exposure at the heating temperature in the single-phase γ-region with subsequent cooling. As a result of processing with an optimal exposure time, the strength and resistance to impact damage are simultaneously increased. The weldability of samples with a nanostructure with carbide strengthening was investigated. The regression was established as for dependence of the time the samples to be kept in the oven before cooling on the cross-sectional area.
