On the basis of the latest methodological achievements of historical science and modern humanities, it is planned to study the multifaceted evolution of Ukrainian-Russian relations from independence to the present, in particular the main factors and features of Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014 - 2021. In the course of the project, a number of important problems are planned that characterize the peculiarities of the interaction of the two largest powers in the post-Soviet space:
1) economy as a policy: energy, Russian capital in Ukraine and relations between financial and industrial groups
2) humanitarian dimensions: how to reconcile with the past?
3) Crimea Island - from autonomy to annexation
4) international relations: Russians in Ukraine, Ukrainians in Russia
5) media space and security issues
6) at war as at war: 2014 - 2019
Studying and researching these aspects will allow us to get closer to understanding the dynamics of social, state-making and economic processes that have influenced the character of Ukrainian-Russian relations in the last thirty years. At the same time, the emphasis will be on the study of these problems in terms of the latest theories of international relations and inter-civilizational approach.

Object of research: society and state of Ukraine and the Russian Federation Research subject: relations between Ukrainian and Russian society and states in 1991-2021. The purpose of the work: The main purpose of the research is to study the evolution of Ukrainian-Russian relations from the time Ukraine gained independence to the present day, in particular inter-elite interaction, problems of national minorities, economic interdependence, the main factors and features of Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014-2021. In the research work the methods of history, historiography and related socio-humanitarian disciplines (political science, ethno-political science, sociology, cultural studies, economics, etc.) will be used, in particular: cliometrics, longitudinal analysis, comparative studies, prosopographic research, techno-economic forecasting, cultural anthropometry. Special attention will be focused on the source support of the research, including due to the involvement of evidence and information deposited on the Internet, including their selection, analysis and interpretation. Research methods. The methods of history, historiography and related social and humanitarian disciplines (political science, sociology, cultural anthropology, etc.) were used in the research work. Results: In the course of the work, special attention was paid to the development of the methodology for researching the modern history of Ukraine, as well as to the issue of effective cooperation between academic institutes and scientific divisions of universities and the implementation of academic historiography developments in higher education.
