Purpose - to create new varieties that would be superior to the existing ones regarding basic economic characteristics. Methods – interspecies and intervariety hybridization with subsequent individual selection. Theoretical and practical results – multi-year experience in spring pasta wheat breeding has come to fruition in scientific and methodological guidelines "Creation of Spring Pasta Wheat Varieties with Improved Pasta Properties", which highlight the issues of developing a technique for assessing flour and pasta colors with integration of numerical values into the method for determining the total pasta score and of building up a trait collection of spring pasta wheat, evaluating the genetic diversity of accessions, their systematization and selection of references of pasta properties and valuable economic characteristics. Three new spring pasta wheat varieties have been bred: Goldi has advantages over the check variety in terms of the content of carotenoid pigments of 4.89 mg/kg (+1.56 mg/kg), the total pasta score of 7.8 points (+2.2 points), vitreousness of 85% (+7%); variety Bellatrics has advantages over the check variety in terms of the total pasta score of 8.5 points (+1.8 points); and the variety of forest-steppe ecotype, IR Deneb, has advantages over the check variety in terms of drought resistance of 8 points (+2 points), lodging resistance of 8.5 points (+1.5 points), vitreousness of 92% (+10%). Novelty - scientific and technical products are better than the existing in Ukraine analogs in all major indicators. Effectiveness of implementation – 1,424,000 UAH has been contributed to the Institute's special fund due to the sale of scientific and technical products during the reporting period.
